Beautiful Softscape and Horticultural Design Across CT
We treat softscaping as a critical component of your property's energy, as well as its lifestyle and civil infrastructure. We move beyond "landscaping" to provide comprehensive horticultural design that balances heavy outdoor masonry and carpentry features with living biology. Our approach focuses on Sustainable Design for low maintenance, Specimen-Grade Sourcing and Soil Physics, ensuring that every installation provides immediate architectural scale, long-term privacy, and seasonal resilience. We don't just plant; we value engineer ecosystems that thrive in your lifestyle, as well as in the unique microclimates of the Connecticut shoreline and Litchfield Hills.
Softscape Installation Specifications
-
Horticultural Standards: All plant material is sourced from premier regional nurseries and must meet ANSI Z60.1 American Standards for Nursery Stock for caliper size, root-to-canopy ratio, and structural integrity.
-
Biological Soil Restoration: We do not plant in "dead" fill. Every installation includes a custom soil amendment protocol based on the site's specific drainage profile, utilizing organic mycorrhizae and bio-stimulants to ensure rapid root establishment.
-
Hydraulic Management: To prevent "root rot" in Connecticut’s clay-heavy soils, we utilize Open-Graded Aggregate drainage layers beneath large specimen root balls and install rigid SDR-35 drainage galleries to manage excess runoff.
-
Privacy & Scale: We specialize in the procurement and mechanical installation of Large-Caliper Specimen Trees (15’+), providing immediate privacy screening and architectural maturity that standard nursery stock cannot achieve.

Our Design & Installation Process
-
Phase 1: Site Analysis & Soil Physics: Before a single hole is dug, we analyze the site’s topography, sun exposure, and soil composition. We identify "Micro-Climates" on your property to ensure that every species is placed in an environment where it will naturally thrive, reducing long-term maintenance costs.
-
Phase 2: Specimen Selection & Curation We don't buy off the rack. We hand-select focal-point specimens from a network of specialized growers. Whether it's a 20-foot Japanese Maple or a screen of mature Green Giant Arborvitae, we curate the material to match the scale of your masonry and architecture.
-
Phase 3: Structural Planting & Infrastructure Installation begins with the "invisible" work: trenching for integrated irrigation, installing low-voltage lighting conduits, and correcting sub-surface drainage. We then install the primary specimen trees using specialized equipment to prevent soil compaction, followed by the mid-tier shrubs and perennial layers.
-
Phase 4: Multi-Season Calibration The final phase involves a precision mulch application and the calibration of irrigation zones. We provide a comprehensive "Care Protocol" and a multi-season monitoring plan to ensure the softscape matures into the cohesive, high-value asset intended by the design.
